Concert: Neon ensemble
29 May @ 11:30 - 14:00Free
This spring, the Neon Ensemble, conducted by Bas Bijvoet, will perform concerts dedicated to the victims of the war in Ukraine. In addition to Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, the program also includes the Taras Bulba Overture by Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko, and Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto with the Ukrainian pianist Oksana Pavlova.
The members of the Neon Ensemble got to know each other during the tours of the Netherlands Student Orchestra. The approximately 70 orchestra members have been playing together for more than twenty years under the baton of conductor Bas Bijvoet. The Neon Ensemble performs annually in Amsterdam and the surrounding area, and has made international tours to, among others Italy and France. This is the first visit of the Neon Ensemble to Belgium.
At the explicit wish of our Ukrainian soloist Oksana, herself a refugee from the war, we play Russian composer Rachmaninov precisely at this time. Music transcends borders, music is universal, and music connects people.
